How Sweet it is to be Loved by…

20110909-102722.jpg

These were the words written by our 6 yr. old girl… When she made a card for us.

You know why I love you?
Because i like you so much and you love me too.
I am so glad that you are the best parents.

Love,
Karisse

Which chapter is in the center of the bible?

20110908-025152.jpg
While having our small group last night, my friend Nel asked us this question?

WHICH CHAPTER IS IN THE CENTER OF THE BIBLE?

When I found out about it… More and more I was in awe of God’s love for me!

May this revelation inspire us more and more to be in the center of God’s will… 😉

______________________________________________________________

What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?
Answer – Psalms 117

What is the longest chapter in the Bible?
Answer – Psalms 119

Which chapter is in the center of the Bible?
Answer – Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

Add these numbers up and you get 1188

What is the center verse in the Bible?
Answer – Psalms 118:8

Does this verse say something significant about God’s perfect will for our lives?

The next time someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

IT IS BETTER TO TRUST IN THE LORD
THAN TO PUT CONFIDENCE IN MAN.
Psalm 118:8

Bigbro goes to Nurses’ Capping

20110907-055450.jpg

I’m so privileged to be invited to consecrate the symbolic offerings in the 7th cap, pin and candlelight ceremony of the UM College of Nursing.

Not everyone may know this but the nurses principles are based on the word of God and their outfits have significant symbols.

20110907-052618.jpg

The Bible is a reminder That God’s word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path.
(-Psalm 119:105-)

20110907-052928.jpg

The lamp carried by Florence Nightingale served as an inspiration when nursing tasks seemed almost too heavy to carry. She gave birth to modern nursing by her caring, compassionate, and concern for humanity. It is a reminder of the art of caring and compassion a nurse can make a difference in other’s lives.

The cap and pin symbolize responsibility. It also means humility and the ability to work on any area assigned to him or her. And it symbolizes morality, duty and commitment,

The color white uniform represents the nurse’ character. One of the unimpeachable qualities that he/she should model, to be admired and followed.

All in all… I’m so proud of our nurses! For me the hospitals would be the worse place to be in without the nurses being there to take care of its patients!

We will worship You almighty God… In the beauty of your holiness!

-Had an amazing breakfast with my labydabs
-Prepared to leave for school and work…
-Did my usual routine of walking from water district to the edge radio…
-Now I have a radio show for 60 minutes…

Full packed morning… And I love every moment of it…

Small bro inspires Bigbro to write… again.

I have not always been into writing. I’ve watched more videos than have read books my entire life. And I easily dose off When I read books without colored pictures. (he!he!)

But I believe that life is a constant change. That the only constant thing in this world is change! That is why i’m taking a step of faith to start writing again.

Today, I want to focus on honoring someone I consider my small bro. I met him years ago when he joined the edge radio team way back when I was its radio captain. Now, we’re part of the same team… As worshipers of God! Let me introduce him to you.

Church… video game or extreme sport?

Is church becoming more like a video game or is radically becoming more like an extreme sport?

I recently borrowed a book entitled “97 Random Thoughts About Life, Love and Relationships”. it was written by a cool dude named Justin Lookadoo.  He was a juvenile probation officer and is now an author and speaker whose hard-hitting humor and in-your-face message connects with teens.

His thought #87 really spoke to me to go the extreme! Here are some highlights from the book:

Fewer people are getting into extreme sports.  Why? One of the major thoughts is because of video games.

ExTrEmE SpOrTs  Vs.  ViDeO gAmEs:

1) Video games is about doing something instead of actually doing it.

2) Extreme sports happen outside.  It requires something from you and of you.  It requires that you dig deep into yourself and take risks.  You risk being made fun of.  You risk rejection, and you risk losing without the safety net of a reset button.

mouse vs trap

Nowadays, for a lot of people the church has become a religious video game.  We go… we sit… we experience… It’s where we hear about changing the world…It’s where we hear about our power… It’s where we hear about God’s plan in our life, about living our life with full-on abandonement.

BUT WE DON’T DO IT!

Because doing it would take a huge risk…

Risk of losing control…

Risk of having to change…

Risk of being made fun of…

WOULD WE RATHER TALK ABOUT LIVING FOR GOD OR WOULD WE FINALLY DECIDE TO ACTUALLY RISK EVERYTHING AND DO IT?

SO IF YOU THINK IT’S TIME…

drop the controller… get off the couch…

IT’S TIME TO PLAY A REAL GAME!!!

So let me ask you… when it comes to church, are you into video games or extreme sports?

Just a thought…

You can check out Justin Lookadoo’s website… it’s www.lookadoo.com

As “Slum” as I can be…

slumposter1I’m a movie freak.  I can say that i’ve watched more movies than i’ve read books.  But i don’t just watch anything i lay my eyes on… I choose the movies I watch.  Last night, i had a chance to watch for the 2nd time the movie Slumdog Millionaire.  There is something about watching the same movie twice.  I dunno about you, but whenever I watch movies, i just choose to enjoy every bit of it the first time.  On the 2nd viewing do i choose to look more on the technical aspects of a movie.  I admit i’m a “feeler” type of person.  That is why i am not ashamed to say that i do cry alot when watching movies that really touch my heart. (even on tv ads would you believe!)

So going back to Slumdog Millionare, this is one of the best foreign films I’ve ever watched in years.  It was simply amazing! It had everything in it.  relevant… funny… heartwarming…. action and suspense filled… a low budget film excellently made.

But more than all those movie elements… the movie hit me on a different scale… It hit me as a person.  And I believe God used that movie to remind me of my life and my plans…

Through that movie, God reminded me of his word… THAT HE KNOWS THE PLANS HE HAS FOR ME. PLANS TO PROSPER ME AND NOT TO HARM ME. PLANS TO GIVE ME HOPE AND A FUTURE.

slumboyLooking at Jamal (the main character).  Just to give you a background, Jamal grew up in the slums of (present day Mumbai).  He was a very determined and focused kid.  Once he put his heart into something, he would go for it no matter what.  His brother Salim was determined to be successful too but he always wanted the easy way.  Jamal on the other hand understood the value of hardwork and sacrifice. But most of all… he knew what  love is.

I won’t be sharing much more of the story to avoid being a spoiler.  But I do want to share more about how God sp

oke to me through this movie.

slumhopes1

1. Jamal’s determination to succeed was a reminder for me that FAITH IS BEING SURE OF WHAT WE HOPE FOR AND CERTAIN OF WHAT WE DO NOT SEE.

2. Jamal’s past prepared him for the present.  I just knew that every experience i had gone through in my life hapslumlife

pened to prepare me for now and everything I do now is a preparation for everything that will happen in my life tomorrow.  God reminded me that IN ALL THINGS, GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.

3. Jamal chose to look at life in a positive way.  He never allowed his present circumstance to dictate his life even in his growing years.  That was why he became a symbol of hope to the citizens of Mumbai who were living in the slums.  Jamal’s outlook in life motivated him to go on.  God reminded me in his word to

slumpolice

CONSIDER IT PURE JOY, WHENEVER I FACE TRIALS OF MANY KINDS.  HE REMINDED ME THAT THE TESTING OF MY FAITH DEVELOPS PERSEVERANCE.  THAT I HAD TO PERSEVERE IN ORDER FOR ME TO BE MATURE AND COMPLETE, NOT LACKING ANYTHING.  AND THAT I REJOICE IN MY SUFFERINGS, BECAUSE THROUGH MY SUFFERINGS, I PERSEVERE.  AS I PERSEVERE, MY CHARACTER IS BUILT UP, AND AS I HAVE CHRIST’S CHARACTER IN ME, I WILL ALWAYS HAVE HOPE.

4.  But the most amazing thing about Jamal is his unwavering love for Latikka.  They were childhood sweethearts.slumlove2 And after all those years, Jamal never stopped loving her.  His only motivation to go on was because of his love for Latikka.  Jamal’s love for Latikka was unconditional.  Wow!  God definitely reminded me of his love and compassion for me.  THAT JESUS LOVES ME WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE!  THAT THE ONLY REASON HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR ME WAS BECAUSE HE LOVED ME.

I would have to admit that a lot of times I do take my relationship with Christ for granted.  I major on the minor stuff and minor on the majors.  And the major stuff is my time with Him.  God reminded me that LIFE WAS NOT ABOUT WHAT I DO… BUT THAT IT’S ALL ABOUT WHO I HAVE.

when it comes to my family… that IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT WHAT I GIVE THEM… BUT IT’S MORE ABOUT BEING WITH THEM.

5. Success came when Jamal chose to love unconditionally.  He was willing to risk anything for love.  God greatest reminder for me was this:  YOU WILL SEEK ME AND FIND ME WHEN YOU SEEK ME WITH ALL OF YOUR HEslumdreams2ART.

Lord, thank you for speaking through this movie. thank you for reminding me to love you with all my heart… with all my mind… with all my soul… and with all my strength.  I am sorry for my shortcomings.  I am sorry for sometimes i choose the bigger path rather than the narrow one.  Thank you for your love and for never giving up on me.  Help me to love unconditionally… Help me to love you first so I can love others and myself the same way.  I LOVE YOU LORD!

In Jesus, i am a Slumdog Millionare!slumshirt2
