I’m so privileged to be invited to consecrate the symbolic offerings in the 7th cap, pin and candlelight ceremony of the UM College of Nursing.

Not everyone may know this but the nurses principles are based on the word of God and their outfits have significant symbols.

The Bible is a reminder That God’s word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path.
(-Psalm 119:105-)

The lamp carried by Florence Nightingale served as an inspiration when nursing tasks seemed almost too heavy to carry. She gave birth to modern nursing by her caring, compassionate, and concern for humanity. It is a reminder of the art of caring and compassion a nurse can make a difference in other’s lives.

The cap and pin symbolize responsibility. It also means humility and the ability to work on any area assigned to him or her. And it symbolizes morality, duty and commitment,

The color white uniform represents the nurse’ character. One of the unimpeachable qualities that he/she should model, to be admired and followed.

All in all… I’m so proud of our nurses! For me the hospitals would be the worse place to be in without the nurses being there to take care of its patients!
